Another great health and nutrition article resource

As most of you have discovered there are many great blogs and nutrition resources out there – ones I read regularly are under my ‘links’ lists.

They're happy because they eat lard

However I found this Wiki Diet and Health site  today which has some useful, well referenced articles. (And a great selection of quips, photos and pictures, like this one) It has good overviews of many topics pertinent to those interested in Paleo and Ancestral Nutrition, and includes 1200 or so quality references. Much of the information is inspired and collated from the best Paleo type blog posts and articles. Many interesting graphs are included. Who put this together is a mystery. All I can glean is that he or she is a PhD student. Whoever you are thank-you!

Introduction:

“‘Chronic diseases’ such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart attacks, acne, asthma are rampent among developed societies. They are likely wholly preventable by dietary means, and in conjunction with modern medical aid, are likely reversible.

Everyday health issues commonly associated with aging such as arthritis, decreased energy, allergies, snoring, heartburn, brittle bones, and mood disorders, are not a result of aging, but rather the accumulation of preventable disease, and also are most all reversible.

Common notions of most health-inducing behavior are either wrong, insignificant, or actually inducing of harm. Whole grains cause disease and saturated fat is the safest nutrient a human could consume. Vegetables, fiber, antioxidants, and chronic cardio do not significantly improve health.

Extensive scientific evidence supports the above claims. This wiki currently has over 1,200 references to unique, peer reviewed scientific literature.

Furthermore, being vibrantly healthy is easy, cheap, and tasty.”

For example I found this one particularly interesting:

Anti-Nutrients in Food

“Grasses are living things. Grains are the ‘babies’ grass produce, rich in energy and nutrition necessary for growth. This makes them attractive targets for herbivores and other predators. In response, since grains can not really run or hide, grasses put ample toxins and antinutritional factors into their ‘babies’ in order to sabotage potential predators. They have spent millions of years battling various predators, notably, the mammalian herbivore’s digestive tract.”
