Many of us are fortunate that our bodies, despite the bits we don’t like, for the most part are whole and complete. We can move it in ways we want and exercise with ease.
Not so with everyone. Back in the ’90s I flatted (that’s a room-mate) with an inspiring woman, a dancer – Catherine Chappell, who had a vision to found a professional dance troupe, with both able bodied and people with disabilities. It was challenging, yet Catherine found funding, a studio to practice in, and an amazing group of passionate dancers with a huge range of physical abilities.
Her first show in 1997 was a triumph; entertaining, brilliant and highly professional.
